It may make a difference to the cost – depending on what the additional amount of work is involved (the more intricate the design, the more craftmanship required) – but we’ll give you an accurate price that may help with your decision.

They can look fairly imposing, particularly when fully boarded and lend to those seeking more privacy as they’ll prevent anyone from seeing in. Some hardwood designs have pales along the top third of the design, which may be more suited if you’d like to have some view of the outside world and not feel detached. All hardwood gates can be stained, oil-treated, or left to weather naturally, giving a versatile look. A little more care is necessary to keep them looking fresh and we’d recommend that we oil-treat the gates prior to them leaving our workshop and that you continue to do that annually, or as the need arises.
Metal Gates are often seen as being a little more refined and come powder-coated, which requires less maintenance (generally just a wipe over with a soft cloth periodically to prevent any build-up of algae). Metal frames also work well with cladding materials such as hardwood, composite or aluminium boards and possibly provide a more ‘custom’ look.
Ultimately, there are definitely advantages to both, so the choice often comes down to the look you’re aiming for, the desired longevity, and the maintenance level that suits you best. Remember, it’s estimated that having gates at the entrance to a property will add an additional 5% to its value and increases kerb appeal!
